The road to Joshua Tree in a rainstorm, traveling with an old friend, stormy weather golden hour turns blue.

Aleah Chapin is a figurative painter currently working in Brooklyn that I'm extremely privileged to have met at a wedding many years ago in Ohio. Her work features large scale nudes, often in groups, set in landscapes from the West Coast of Washington State where she grew up. I find her work unique, inspiring, and extremely beautiful while highlighting the struggles of age, health, and what beauty means. Aleah has been a great friend to me, and I was ecstatic to visit her studio to photograph her and the objects that she uses in her work. Find information about Aleah here and here. I found an abandoned house with a basketball hoop just north of Columbus , which was the whole inspiration for this shoot. I didn't expect to find a barn laying on its side, or the great filtered light, or the 60 degree weather in late November, but all these elements came together to help us with these pictures.
Andy and Brooke were married in a ceremony that demonstrated their goodness, tenderness, and generosity to each other, and I was very lucky to be asked to document their special day's celebrations. This wedding was an experience I'll cherish because of the sense of love and care I saw among the couple and their guests, and because the bonfire was a the largest I have seen in my adult life.
